Irrigation System Upgrades improve a system that mostly works: extending it to new areas, adding zones, fixing poor coverage, replacing ageing parts and adapting it after landscaping changes.
Describe your current system once and compare upgrade quotes.
Compare Upgrade QuotesCommon Upgrades
| Upgrade | When it helps |
|---|---|
| Extending lines | New beds, lawn or garden areas |
| Adding zones | Low pressure at line ends, mixed planting on one zone |
| Re-heading and re-nozzling | Dry patches, overspray, mismatched heads |
| Sprinklers to drip in beds | Wasted water and wet foliage |
| Replacing valves and manifolds | Leaking or sticking valves |
| Smart controller and sensors | Watering in rain, manual seasonal changes |
| Adding a pump or tank | Supply cannot keep up |
After Landscaping Changes
New paving, beds or trees often block heads or leave areas dry. A contractor maps the existing pipe, then moves heads, caps unused lines and adds zones where needed.
How It Works
- Send photos and describe what changed or what is not working.
- Contractor checks pressure, zones and controller capacity.
- Quote lists what is reused and what is replaced.
- Compare and appoint.
- Upgrade, test and update the schedule.

Ballpark figures, not quotations. Ranges compiled from price guides published by South African irrigation, building-cost and quote websites, checked 19 October 2026 and rounded where needed. They are not our prices and no contractor is bound by them. Ranges cover supply and installation. Paving and planting reinstatement are usually extra. Published guides vary widely, so treat the ranges as a sanity check only. None of the sources state whether VAT is included, so confirm VAT on every quote.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I add a zone to my existing system?
Usually, if the controller has a spare station and the supply can feed it. If not, a larger or modular controller is fitted.
My new beds are not watered. Do I need a new system?
Rarely. Lines can be extended and heads moved or swapped for drip to match new landscaping.
Is it worth upgrading old heads and valves?
Yes, if they leak, stick or give poor coverage. Newer heads with matched nozzles water more evenly.
Will adding zones lower my pressure?
Not if each zone runs on its own. Adding heads to an existing zone can, which is why extra zones are often better.
