How a Repair Visit Works

  1. Run each zone and note faults.
  2. Check controller output and wiring.
  3. Check valves, solenoids and filters.
  4. Locate leaks, by digging or leak detection on harder jobs.
  5. Quote the repair, with parts listed, before work starts.

Repair or Replace?

If leaks keep returning on the same line, pipe is undersized, or coverage was never right, patching keeps costing money. Look at irrigation system upgrades instead. For a dead controller, see irrigation controller installation.

Ballpark figures, not quotations. Ranges compiled from price guides published by South African irrigation, building-cost and quote websites, checked 19 October 2026 and rounded where needed. They are not our prices and no contractor is bound by them. After-hours and weekend work can cost 25 - 50% more according to one source. Deep digs, paving and reinstatement add to pipe repairs. Published guides vary widely, so treat the ranges as a sanity check only. None of the sources state whether VAT is included, so confirm VAT on every quote.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why will one irrigation zone not switch on?

Common causes are a faulty solenoid, a cut or corroded wire, a stuck valve diaphragm or a controller fault. A contractor tests the controller output, wiring and valve in turn.

Why is my sprinkler pressure low?

A leak on that zone, a partly closed valve, blocked filters or nozzles, or too many heads on one zone. A broken pipe often shows as a soggy patch or a head that barely pops up.

Can a broken sprinkler head be replaced on its own?

Yes. Heads screw onto a riser or fitting, so most replacements are quick. Match the type and nozzle to the others in that zone.

Why does a valve keep running after the controller switches off?

Usually debris under the diaphragm or a worn solenoid. Cleaning or replacing it normally solves it.

Is a call-out fee charged for irrigation repairs?

Usually. Published guides put a diagnostic visit at roughly R400 - R950. Ask whether it is deducted if you go ahead with the repair.
